چکیده

In this paper, transmit Beamforming (BF) for Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) is studied in the downlink of wireless cellular systems based on Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA). This combination allows a separation of users’ signals in space, thanks to BF, and frequency, thanks to CDMA, and thus improves mitigation of multiple access interference. We propose to perform BF on each subcarrier independently to allow any kind of detection algorithms at the mobile terminal. Single user criteria based on maximum ratio transmission and a multi-user criterion maximizing the signal over interference plus noise ratio are studied. We show that beamforming impairs the orthogonality of the user’s signals in frequency. However, the advantage of separation in space clearly prevails, especially when low complex detection techniques are used at the mobile terminal. Furthermore, we propose a simple and efficient combination of CDMA and SDMA that significantly increases the system capacity by reallocation of spreading codes.

The downlink minimum bit error rate (MBER) transmit beamforming is directly designed based on the uplink MBER receive beamforming solution for time division duplex (TDD) space-division multiple-access (SDMA) induced multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, where the base station (BS) is equipped with multiple antennas to support multiple single-antenna mobile terminals (MTs). It is shown ...

Differentially coherent code acquisition in the MIMO-aided multi-carrier DS-CDMA downlink

Both differentially coherent and non-coherent code acquisition schemes designed for the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-aided multi-carrier (MC)-DS-CDMA downlink are analysed, when communicating over uncorrelated Rayleigh channels. The attainable mean acquisition time (MAT) performance is studied as a function of both the number of multiple transmit/multiple receive antennas and that of t...

Transmit power reduction through subcarrier selection for MC-CDMA-based indoor optical wireless communications with IM/DD

This research addresses the issue of average transmit optical power reduction in multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA)-based indoor optical wireless communications employing intensity modulation with direct detection. The problem is treated in a novel way by investigating preand post-equalization-based subcarrier selection for transmit power reduction in downlink transmissions. ...

Resource Allocation in Multi-Antenna Communication Systems with Limited Feedback

The use of multiple transmit antennas is considered a key ingredient to significantly improve the spectral efficiency of wireless communication systems beyond that of currently employed systems. Transmit beamforming schemes have been proposed to exploit the spatial characteristics of multi-antenna radio channels; that is, multiple-input single-output (MISO) channels. In multiuser communication ...

Matched Filter Bound Optimization for Multiuser Downlink Transmit Beamforming

This paper is devoted to the optimization of the matched filter bounds (MFB) of different co-channel users, using adaptive antenna arrays at base stations for downlink transmit beamforming in cellular mobile communication systems. We mainly consider time division multiple access (TDMA) frequency division duplex (FDD) based systems. Note that in the case of time division duplex (TDD), under cert...
